Mr. Md. Afzal Karim will take over as CEO and Managing Director of Sonali Bank Limited on August 28, 2022.

In his 35+ years of banking expertise, he served Bangladesh House Building Finance Corporation (BHBFC) in the role of Managing Director, Sonali Bank Limited and Bangladesh Krishi Bank as Deputy Managing Director and many other prominent positions in different financial organizations.

Mr. Karim was the sole MD and CEO of a bank or financial institution to receive the Integrity Award from the Ministry of Finance's Financial Institution Division for the fiscal year 2021-2022 in appreciation of his honesty and efficiency.

He earned a B.Sc in Mechanical Engineering from Khulna University of Engineering and Technology. He also holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Industrial Management (PGDIM) from the Bangladesh Institute of Management (BIM) and an MBA (Major in Finance & Banking).

He attended different banking training courses, seminars, and workshops both at home and abroad, and he travelled to Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Italy and USA.
